~~~NEWS~~~
This is my last club run as President...After much thought and prayer I have decided to step down due to family reasons...Laney is 7 months old now and Zachary is soon approaching 7 years old. My husband, Paul, is working 21 days in Pennsylvania and comes home just for 6 days...I have to juggle my son to Ju-Jitsu and baseball while trying to work and run as well...It is just too much at this time and want to continue as a member only...I want to THANK everyone who has helped me and supported me these past several years...
This year when I decided to host the Feb run...I wanted to team up with my friends at Parke Way Fitness Center to help host the Second Annual Cupid's Challenge...we had a awesome turnout despite the snow covered ground!! We also changed things up by offering different race categories...we were so glad to have 121 runners total! Thank You!!
I have some sad news as well...many of you know but some of you do not...
On December 29, 2009, Dr. Len "Hammer" Brenner was called to his heavenly home while on vacation in Mazatlan, Mexico. A devoted husband, a loving father, and a committed Christian who embraced life, Leonard Brenner died at the age of 71.
He came to Texas in 1985 to teach engineering at LeTourneau University. With his wife, Alice, he was an active member of Fellowship Bible Church where he taught adult Bible classes and participated as a vital part of the community.
Hammer was born on November 15, 1938 in Buffalo, NY, into a family of five siblings (He has an identical twin brother named Leslie). Hammer married Alice in 1961 and were blessed with one son, Paul.
His hobbies and passions included:
~The collection and restoration of antique clocks. He was an avid member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors.
Tater Trot
Never let it be said that a little drizzle will stop the Longview Running Club. It was a misty morning but over 60 runners took part in the 5k, 30 of which were club members. The 2 mile fun run was just as successful with about 30 runners as well.
I am so excited about the increasing membership. We just keep getting bigger and better. We currently have about 150 with a high percentage of truly active participants. I know that the 2009-2010 running year is going to be the best ever. All of your officer's appreciate your support! Please let us know of any personal accomplishments so that we can keep everyone informed!
The November run will be at Melanie's. You will have your choice of a 5k or 10k. Come on out for good food, good laughs and some good running! I look forward to seeing all of you there.
Always remember to embrace the JOY!!!
